Selected students give a helping hand to their teachers and peers in ensuring the safety of all Carlton students in an emergency situation.
Safety Marshals support the teacher in evacuating students. The most important role is to assist the teacher in emergency procedures. Safety Marshals work with each teacher so a classroom evacuation plan is in place. For example, the Safety Marshal can, after direction from the teacher, take the Emergency Packet, lead the class to the evacuation area, remind students to be quiet and stay in line, look for the teacher’s buddy class, and be a runner for the teacher.
Before emergencies or drills occur, Safety Marshals will be responsible for knowing the emergency procedures for the school and their assigned classroom. They will ensure that emergency materials are easy to locate and updated, as well as assist the teacher in training students on what to do in case of emergency.
